I have always had an affinity with technology. I used Apple IIe and TRS-80 computers in school. I had a friend with an Intel PC but everything ran on floppy disks. My first PC at home was made by a company called Leading Edge here in Michigan. It was the only PC I had ever seen with an internal Hard Disk. There was no internet. My 1200 baud modem was used to direct dial into bulletin boards anywhere I could find a number. I was 14 years old and it was 1984. As the years passed I started building PC’s of my own with parts I ordered from catalogs. By the 1990’s I could dial in to the World Wide Web and I never looked back from there.

In 2007 My daughter started elementary school full time and I had too much time on my hands. I found myself helping friends, neighbors and acquaintances with their computer issues. In 2008 I formed Insite Technology, LLC and made my hobby a career.

The most fun I have at work is when I am commissioned to build a new custom PC. I have built hundreds of them over the years and each one is special. I pride myself on expert workmanship. Knowing all the internal parts so well that I can extract the best performance out of the selected equipment. My customer PC’s are not like box store PC’s or mass manufactured units where the parts are chosen not for their interoperability and performance, but by the lowest cost of the day. Most of the PC’s I have built over the years are still in operation, some over 8 years old. They run perfectly and last very well.

As my children grew up. I realized that technology and access to it was a concern and stumbling block for many parents. I partnered with several small software companies to create parental controls that aimed to limit a child’s access to dangerous content. I also began penetration testing many mobile devices from a child use standpoint. As time went on, I saw more and more business owners dealing with cyber threats they weren’t prepared for.

The rise of data breaches, ransomware, and online scams was taking a toll, and I hated seeing good people losing time, money, and peace of mind. That’s why I shifted my focus to cybersecurity—because preventing problems is always better than fixing them after the damage is done.

With the explosion of AI, I have found myself spending more time responding to my clients as they have data breaches and loss. I hate taking money from my clients to undo the damage of a hacker or thief, it just feels dirty.

The rapid advancement of AI is not only transforming businesses but also giving cyber criminals new tools to enhance their attacks. Microsoft has reported a sharp rise in cyber threats, with attacks becoming faster, larger, and more sophisticated. Staying ahead of malicious activity is now more challenging than ever.
